The Ashes is a series of five Test matches, with each taking up to five days to be played. The winner of each Test match receives an Ashes series point, and the first to reach three points wins the Ashes. Scores can range from 3-0 to 4-1, but there is also the draw to consider. In many cases, a drawn match is the result of weather interruption. For instance, the 2019 Ashes s🦄eries played in England ended in a 2-2-1 draw.

At the start of a match a coin is tossed to decide which team bats first. The team that bats first will face the bowlers of the opposition with the aim of scoring as many runs as possible before all batters are bowled out. Each team has two batting sessions with the number 🌺of runs scored. The team with the most runs after two rounds of batting is the winner.

The Ashes is played under Test match cricket rules and matches often last the scheduled five days but there are shorter, more modern versions of the game. There’s a One Day International where each team faces 50 overs and T20 cricket where each team faces 20 overs in a single innings. The latter format is the key to success in the extremely popular Indian Premier League (IPL).

The next Ashes series will begin on the 8th of December and will be settled on or before the 18th of January. Cricket the Ashes 2021/22 will, as always, be a five Test match series played at five different venues across Australia. The Ashes Betting Tips & Predictions

  • List Icon

Traders at all major bookmakers have made Australia the favourite, and there’s no surprise in that. Cricket in Australia suffered the worst chapter in its history just a few years ago, and for a long time it looked like the national team wouldn’t survive. There was in-fighting, blaming, scandal and fans turning their backs on the team in their thousands. Heads rolled at the top level in the aftermath of a cheating scandal, but cricket in Australia survived. Not only that, but they also appear to have come back stronger. Cricket is now back to where it should be in Australia, played and supported by those who love the game,𓂃 relish the opportunity to represent their country and love beating England in the Ashes.

  • List Icon

Australia are the overwhelming favourites to retain the Ashes down under, with some even tipping another 5-0 whitewash for the hosts. England were smashed 5-0 by the Aussies in 2007 and 2014 and seven years on history could be ab🉐out to repeat itself. The hosts have emerged from the darkest period in their own illustrious history and have rebuilt with vigour. Pat Cummins has taken over as captain, with Tim Paine stepping down following allegations of misconduct and taking a break from the game for the foreseeable future.

  • List Icon

The absence of Paine has not stopped Australia going into this series looking like the dominant force, remarkable really given the recent in-fighting, blaming, scandal and fans turning their back on the team in their thousands. But despite heads rolling in the aftermath of the cheating scandal, Australia remain 9/11 to win the series. That wi꧅ll see them retain the Ashes and put the smiles on the faces of supporters who love to see the Pommies lose.

  • List Icon

Australia are the current keepers of the Ashes and have been since hammering England 4-0 with only one draw in 2017. The teams have met once since then, with Australia holding on to their prize thanks to a hard-fought draw in August 2019, where the scoreboard at the end of the series read 2-2 and one draw. That means England have won only one of the last four Ashes series, an Australian run that stretches back to 2013.

  • List Icon

The winning stats for Ashes played in Australia encourage bettors to stick with the hosts. The current holders of the Ashes have hosted 35 times in the past and have won an astonishing 19 times and achieved two draws against the 14 wins of . In three of the last five renewals, we’ve seen England fail to win a single Test ma🏅tch, with winning 5-0 in 2013 and 4-0 with one draw in 2017. The interesting thing๊ about these renewals was they were both played in Australia.

Australia are worthy favourites in the cricket betting to win the Ashes, and their recent form in this grudge match, as well as their home advantage, suggests they should continue their dominance. Australia are worth backing at odds of 4/7 with 888sport to win the Ashes series. Those looking for a bet at more appealing odds may want to support the hosts on the handicap and hope for anoꦐther comfortable ou🍃ting for the home team.

The Ashes was first contested between England and Australia back in 1882/83 in Australia and has grown in both popularity and stature since. The Ashes tag and the urn that is now awarded to the winning team weren’t introduced until nine years later. Some of you might now ask: What are the ashes in cricket? The origin of the name can be traced back to a historic win for Australia in England when a famous newspaper stated English cricket had been cremated.

  • List Icon

Where does the term of the Ashes come from? There is much confusion and rumour over this but, today, it’s the name given to the series and the trophy. Inside the urn given to the winners of the series are the ashes of two bails from one of the early international matches involving England and Australia. The original urn has been at the Lords cricket museum for over 75 years and can be visited to this day. The trophy the teams play for now is a replica as the original is much to🅰o fragile to be handled.

Another common question among newbies is ‘what is the Ashes cricket score?’ Well, the head-to-head scores in the Ashes show there have been 71 series played with 33 wins for Australia (46.5%), 32 for England (45.1%) and six draws (8.5%). Since 1989, England have managed just five wins to the 11 of Australia and one draw. The following are only some of all memorable renewals: The Ashes cricket 2009 game ended in a narrow England wꦜin. The Ashes cricket 2019 produced a 2-2 draw while the Ashes cricket game 2013 gave up a comfortable 3-0 England win on UK soil.
